6 sewing/tailoring and 6 Adult Literacy Centers are being run among displaced women

Under the project title “Socio-Economic Empowerment of Displaced Women in Quetta, Baluchistan, Pakistan” 6 sewing/tailoring and 6 Adult Literacy Centres are being run among displaced women at various parts of Quetta. The training course is for 7 months.

2-day Adult Literacy Training

Under the project title “Socio-Economic Empowerment of Displaced Women in Quetta, Baluchistan, Pakistan” 2-day Adult Literacy Training was held for teachers and supervisors on 28th-29th October 2023 at Umeed Partnership Pakistan’s office Quetta. The facilitator for the training was Shamin Gulzar Director UPP.

A full day Orientation and project briefing Session

Under the project title “Socio-Economic Empowerment of Displaced Women in Quetta, Baluchistan, Pakistan” a full day orientation and project briefing session was held for 30 teachers and trainers along with project staff on 27th October 2023 at auditorium Hall Jan Luxury hotel Quetta. The facilitators for the session were Shamin Gulzar Director UPP, Yousaf Gill project coordinator and Hamida Hazara project supervisor. The topic covered during the session were:

Skills and business development
Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)
Secondary Traumatic Stress/Compassion
Secondary Trauma

Summary: UPP

Umeed Partnership Pakistan (UPP) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-commercial, and non-political voluntary organization with a broad vision to provide social, democratic, and human rights services regardless of caste, creed, or gender.

Established in 2000 by a group of like-minded individuals from Balochistan, UPP was founded by those who dedicated themselves to working for the welfare of marginalized communities — including the poor, needy, suffering, disadvantaged, destitute, depressed, disabled, and oppressed — from rural, tribal, slum, suburban, and urban areas.

UPP was officially registered under the Societies Act of 1860 (Registration No. 764) on April 18, 2001, in Quetta. It is also registered with the Balochistan Charities Registration and Regulation Authority (Registration No. BCRA-114349), dated January 12, 2021. Additionally, UPP received certification from the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) on April 29, 2021, under Certification No. PCP-2021/828.

UPP has a partner organization in the UK — Umeed Partnership (UK) — which is registered as a charity with the UK Charity Commission.

Over time, the organization recognized that women in the region had little to no access to education and were largely unaware of their basic human rights. As a result, the potential of half the population remained untapped — a tragic waste of talent. In response, UPP gradually evolved into a women-centered support organization, focusing on assisting women who are illiterate, unaware of their rights, or victims of abduction, rape, forced conversion, forced marriage, widowhood, disease, domestic or gender-based violence, sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and economic dependence.

UPP now primarily works for the economic empowerment of women, children, and transgender individuals, and for the promotion and protection of democracy and human rights. Although the organization was initially founded by both men and women, it is now led and managed by women, with most leadership and decision-making roles held by women.
